OD Harris declares Candidacy For Chandler City Council  

 

(Chandler, AZ November 15, 2019)  Long-time Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Community advocate, Licensed Accountant, and an Army Veteran, OD Harris, will formally announce his candidacy for Chandler City Council Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at West Alley BBQ and Smokehouse, Downtown Chandler, 111 W Boston St. Chandler, AZ at his campaign kickoff event from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

“After a lot of thought and encouragement from a number of local residents, I have decided to offer my name for election to Chandler City Council.” Harris said. “Our current Council has accomplished important work, but from what I hear, fresh thinking and new blood is needed around the Council table.” 

Harris who has a solid track record in entrepreneurship.  He founded his first business in 2003, Wisdom Tax and Business Consulting, with zero working capital. Within its first year, the company acquired a national and global clientele and was able to open multiple offices. In 2012, Harris sold his operations, which operated in 34 locations in 7 states, to his office managers and private equity firms. 

Harris founded the Ready, Set, Go Foundation in 2014 to provide US veterans and women entrepreneurs the tools to “educate, empower and execute” business ownership.  The nonprofit currently has chapters in Arizona, Oklahoma, California, Ohio, and in Michigan, with plans to open more locations by the end of 2020. RSG has served over 938 business owners and have provided more than 1 million dollars in financial scholarships to start-ups.

 For his efforts assisting other entrepreneurs to achieve success, Harris has been honored by multiple organizations for his work in the community. 

 In 2018, Harris was a recipient of the “40 Under 40” award by the Phoenix Business Journal, as well as the prestigious “Point of Light Award,” created by President George H.W. Bush in 1990, which acknowledged individuals who made a significant difference in their communities. In 2019, Harris was awarded the Black Philanthropic Appreciate Award by the Black Philanthropy Initiative under Arizona Community Foundation.

 Harris has served in a variety of capacities at numerous organizations, such as the Barack Obama Foundation and NAACP for Maricopa County Chapter. He was also a board member for the National 100 Black Men of America Phoenix Chapter, National Black MBA Association, and the Red Cross, just to name a few.
